Inferno of Dante: Canto V

The Inferno of Dante: Canto V is an operatic treatment of the fifth Canto from Dante's masterpiece, the Inferno. This work is the latest in an ongoing series of operatic compositions by Mr. Soluri using the Inferno of Dante. In 2003 it was selected by New York City Opera to be featured in VOX 2003: Showcasing American Composers. The showcase culminated in a public presentation of the work with the orchestra and singers of New York City Opera in May 2003 in New York City. A recording of the work is available only through appointment with the composer.

The Inferno of Dante: Canto V was written by Mr. Soluri as a Master's Thesis while holding the Moritz von Bomhard Fellowship at the University of Louisville, a graduate fellowship focusing in opera and dramatic vocal composition. The libretto uses the unedited translation of Canto V by John Ciardi.*
